Major Nationals vs. White Sox: April 1, 2012

Nationals 16, White Sox 6
Fireballer Johnny Hartman pitched for 3 and 2/3 innings, helping his cause by stroking a single and a double, and leading the Nationals to victory over the White Sox. Garrett Cook got an early Nationals’ rally going with an line drive, RBI single to the opposite field, while Jack Flaningam added a couple RBI’s with a single and a double. Tim Brannan shined for the White Sox with two hits and quality pitching in relief to keep the Sox in the game. His teammates Lincoln Tadewald and Josh Fowler each made fine defensive plays at first base.

Red Sox 24, Tigers 13

Sunday’s game between the Tigers and Red Sox was one not to be missed, as a Red Sox pitching trio took control. Starter Todd Russell came out strong and continued through four innings. Ryan King showed his stuff on the mound in relief. The Tigers’ bats fired up late but Jack Peters put out the flame in the sixth. Ross Gowan, Sam Balestreri and Jackson Perry hooked up defensively, while Carter Duty, Jackson Szejda and Kevin Sheehan showed off their skills at the plate.

For the Tigers, Pitchers Jack Ranker and Mitchell Bulgalski put in good pitching efforts while Nate Davis provide strong relief. The Tigers were led in hitting by Jack Ranker and Nate Witte

Minor Giants vs. Tigers: March 26, 2012

Giants 10, Tigers 6

With both teams looking for their first win of the season, the Giants and Tigers staged a pitchers duel on Monday night. With the score tied 4 to 4 going into the 5th, Tigers Nate Davis crushed a long fly ball to left and was robbed of an extra base hit by a great catch from Giants Adam Gerdel. The Giants took the late lead on good team hitting and was able to hold off a 6th inning rally by the Tigers. Tiger pitchers Nate Witte, Jack Pallesen, and Kyle McDaniel kept the game close with lots of strikes, but a complete game gem from the Giants Andrew Condrin won the day. Condrin’s 73-pitch complete game featured no bases on balls and two 5 pitch innings – a true Minors division highlight. The great hitting and stellar defense of both teams should translate to more competitive games and possible wins the rest of the season.

Major Tigers vs. Nationals: March 26, 2012

Tigers 7, Nationals 1

Matt Enos secured a hard fought contest between the Major Tigers and Nationals with a 3 run home run in the 6th inning. Matt also pitched 5 2/3 innings strong innings with 10 strike outs with Kyle Young coming in relief to secure the game. The Tigers used a well balanced attack with strong hitting performances throughout their lineup and stellar defense by Blake Harris and Noah Pettinato.

The Nationals had a balanced team defense with strong pitching performances by Jack Flaningam going 4 complete innings and Ben Siravo in relief. Michael Lee helped keep the game close in the late innings scoring off a Matt Condrin hit.

Minor Red Sox vs. Mets: March 24, 2012

Red Sox 12, Mets 3

Samuel Balestreri handcuffed the Mets all night pitching a great game and leading the Red Sox to victory. Down 5-0 in the 1st inning the Mets cut the lead to 5-3 in the 3rd but that was not enough as the Red Sox rallied again in the 4th.

Major Giants vs. White Sox: March 24, 2012

Giants 11, White Sox 6

Giants hold on to beat the White Sox.  Giants jumped out to an early big  7-0 lead, but the White Sox battled back and had plenty of late inning baserunners.  For the Giants, Noah Wallace pitched 4 strong innings and made several nice defensive plays from the mound.   John Keeney pitched well as the late closer for the Giants, slowing down the White Sox rally.  For the White Sox, Josh Davis started their scoring with a hard hit triple, then took home an errant throw.  The White Sox also had great hits from Josh Fowler and Colin Brannan.   Josh Davis pitched well for the Sox, keeping them in check for the middle innings.  JP McKeever played outstanding defensive for the Sox, making several tough plays look routine. Giants had some nice hitting from John Tremewan and Noah Wallace.

Major Mariners vs. Nationals: March 25, 2012

Mariners 7, Nationals 3

Wills Vlasek led the offense and Ben Smith sparked a last inning rally for the Mariners, who earned a come from behind victory over the Nationals. The hard fought game saw two strong pitching performances. Jordan Rahe pitched consistently well for 4 2/3 innings for the Mariners, while the Nationals’ Matt Condrin battled to limit rallies in the first two innings, then found his groove for very efficient pitching for three more innings. Michael Lee’s single and Jensen Salvatori’s double sparked rallies for the Nats.

Minor Mets vs. Giants: March 20, 2012

Mets 17, Giants 8

The Mets got out to a fast start with good pitching by Niko Virga and Ian Bohn and a 4 hit performance by Noah Calderon and timely hitting by Jake Warren and Leo Kelly to  open the season with a win. The Giants had a solid game from Nolan Barry and Alexander Eriksson.

The 10:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. games were called today due to poor field conditions.  The late afternoon games were played as scheduled.

Cubs 8, Nationals 1

In an early season pitchers duel, the Cubs beat the Nationals 8-1. The Cubs  pitching staff threw a combined no hitter with Miles Edwards throwing 5 innings and striking out 14. Ryan Nixon and Jack Kotal closed out the 6th inning. Johnny Hartman had 10 strikeouts for the Nationals in a very strong performance.
