Minor Giants vs Twins, May 22

Giants 9, Twins 9

In an important game in which a Twins’ victory would allow them to clinch as second half winners, and the Giants needed in order to stay in the race, the teams finished six nailbiting innings tied at 9. Jack Flaningam had two doubles and drove in five runs for the Giants, and Matt Enos clubbed an inside the park home run for the Twins. The game will be completed at a later date if necessary to determine the second half winner.

Arden Junior Red Sox vs Rancho Cordova A’s, May 20

The Red Sox jumped out to a 10-0 lead against the Rancho Cordova A’s to take the rubber match on their season series on 5/20.  The 13-3 win which ended the game in the 6th inning, was helped along by the stout pitching of John Manley.  Geoff Luoma and Bailey Wegener led the hitters with several extra base hits each.  Tommy Knapp to Steve Taylor to Joey Arostegui completed an inning ending double play at the plate which provided the boys with momentum to close out the game.

The Red Sox extended their success against the Whitney Reds with a victory on 5/17. Geoff Luoma and Tyler O’Brien combined for the shutout. Bailey Wegener had 2 doubles and scored 3 runs.

Major Yankees vs Cubs, May 13

Yankees (8) vs Cubs (5)

Andrew Wiesenfarth (Cubs) and Tim Sompayrac (Yankees) both pitched very strong games and going for full innings. Gavin Benbrook and Kelly Reilly were effective in relief for the Yankees.

For the Yankees, Mitchell Johnston two base hits. Kelly Reilly two doubles. Jordan Vujovich one double, Mason McKeever and John Olsen each had a base hit. Cub pitchers combined for 16 strikeouts.

For the Cubs, Tanabe two base hits, Weisenfarth triple, Nixon, Wilson, and Cable each had base hits. Yankee pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts.

Cubs take a 5-3 lead in bottom of 3rd highlighted with the RBI triple by Weisenfarth and RBI base hit by Nixon. Yankees came back in top of 5th to score three runs from 2 out doubles by Reilly and Vujovich. Yankees added two insurance runs in the 6th.

  • Josh Parkinson goes 4-for-5 with 4 singles and 4 RBI

  • Max Buzzard gets win on the mound; collects 3 hits with 3 RBI’s
  • Yankees now 6-2 and the Braves are at 5-3 with two games to play

Minor Mets vs Giants, May 17

Giants 2, Mets 1 – Gunnar Reich and Luke Williams of the Mets locked up in a pitching duel with Jordan Rahe and Nico Pedroncelli of the Giants. Ryan Macomber’s run batted in made the difference, giving the Giants a victory in yet another thrilling Mets vs Giants matchup.

Orioles 17 – Giants 7

David Reckers and Blake Harris combined for 5 innings of solid pitching that shut down the Giants’ offense and gave the Orioles a victory.

Carmichael Solons vs. Arden Twins, May 17th

CARMICHAEL SOLONS 6 – ARDEN TWINS 5 (8 INNINGS)

  • Solons score game-winning run on sacrifice fly to left field
  • TWINS came back from 2-1, 4-3, and 5-4 in the 7th inning
  • This was a battle between first place teams in the WEST (Twins) and EAST (Solons)

Major Giants vs Yankees, May 15

Yankee pitchers Kelly Reilly, Mitchell Johnston, and Mason McKeever combined to limit the Giants to one hit in a 10 to 2 victory Saturday morning. Giants pitchers Danny Miller and Chris Harris pitched great for the Giants but were unable to stop the powerful offense of the “Bronx Bombers”. Miller delivered the lone hit for the Giants.

Offensively the Yanks tallied 9 base hits including an explosive fourth inning with a 3 RBI in the park homer by Johnston (2/3 on the day), a deep solo shot over the centerfield fence by Reilly (two HRs for the year & 2/3 on the day), and a 2 RBI long ball over the centerfield fence by Jordan Vujovich (five HRs for the year & 2/3 on the day). Yankee batters Jonah Cartwright, Liam O’Donnell, John Olsen, and Sean Read also earned base hits in the win.
