Minor Rays set to play 4th night in a row

June 16, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

With the emotionally and physically draining games on Monday and Tuesday (a restart of Monday’s from the second inning), the Rays weren’t able to mount a comeback against the Carmichael Red Sox.  But, since we’re in double-elimination play at this point, the Rays will retake the field tonight against the Whitney Mets (game time 6 pm at Sunrise LL).  Nico Virga and Brooke Furukawa pitched great games, helping leave some pitchers available for tonight.

With a win tonight, the Rays would play the Carmichael team again Friday night, and possibly Saturday, depending on who would be the first team with two losses.  At this point, the Rays have played 4 games in 5 days, with tonight being the 5th game in 6 days!  The team is starting to wonder if it is on an MLB schedule!  The Rays want to thank everyone for continued support and would like to offer their congratulations to the All Star teams announced yesterday.  Go Arden!

Minor Rays prevail 9-8 in reset game

June 15, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

The 8-inning Monday night loss by the minor Rays to the Northridge Brewers was reset back to the bottom of the 2nd inning and played Tuesday evening as a result of a granted protest on the use of an ineligible pitcher. This time, the Rays prevailed by stealing home on a passed ball in the bottom of the 6th. Both teams played two great nights of clean, exciting, and fun baseball. With available pitchers starting to become an issue, Ryan Young got the “start” (at the top of the 3rd) and went through two innings with only 17 pitches! The confident Brooke Furukawa provided excellent relief. Though there was great play by all the Rays, a clutch 2-RBI double by Nate Davis boosted the Rays chances for victory.

The Rays now play Wednesday (today) at Sunrise Little League against the winner of the Area 1 vs. Area 3 championship game. The Rays want to thank all of you who came out at the last minute to cheer them on! Go Arden!

Major Giants vs Northridge Tigers: June 11, 2011

June 13, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

Giants 10, Tigers 5

The Arden Major Giants had a strong performance for their 2nd win of the TOCs against the Northridge Tigers. Reid Nixon lead the Giants with 4 strong innings of superb pitching. He was relieved in the 5th inning by Brett Wilson who also had a very strong outing and finally Billy Moebs came in to close out the Tigers in the 6th. The team was helped by great defensive plays from Gavin Benbrook at third, Miles Edwards at shortstop and Brady Hegland at second who ended the game with a sliding backhanded play for the last out of the game. The offense was lead by its leadoff batter and one of the team leaders, Miles Edwards who was 4 for 4 with 2 doubles and 2 triples. Billy Moebs also added to the scoring with an inning starting triple that lead to the Giants batting through their lineup including hits by Ryan Nixon, Brady Hegland, Gavin Benbrook, and Brett Wilson.

Minor Rays win again

June 12, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

As part of an Arden Little League sweep at our home fields on Saturday morning (the Major and Junior teams won also), the Minor Rays beat the Citrus Heights A’s to advance to the next round of the TOCs. With great pitching from Ryan Young, Brooke Furukawa and the Rays closer, Jay (the Beard) Wilson, and great defensive plays around the diamond and in the outfield, the A’s just couldn’t get much started. The hot bats of Mitchell Dixon and Adon Stassi, combined with clutch hits from Jack Harris and RBI-king, Jake Nelson, helped build an early lead that the Rays never gave up. Congratulations to another great team victory, and good luck on Monday!
